I’ve always said this blog is going to be a reflection of my life and, well, I’ve started planning for Christmas Day and here’s why…
I’m Hosting!
It’s my turn to host Christmas Day lunch. It comes around every three or four years, but it will be my first as a Mrs (super excited)!
So everything has to be just right.
Budget
Although I start saving for gifts in March, Christmas day is a completely different set of lists 🙂
If I have an idea of what I want now, I can shop around, get it ( at the best price) and avoid that last minute dash to the mall. A melee come November.
I also find that I spend less money frivolously during the year if I know well in advance how much money I would have actually spent by the end of it.
Decor
It’s an investment as I won’t only be using it on Christmas Day.
My mother and I either buy similar tableware, or we just go ahead and get the same sets in contrasting colours – and I don’t have to store all of it all year round.
Food
Gives me a chance to get a little practice in… find an easier way to make something.
Or, just find out if it tastes better the next day. Does it freeze well – you know, for when you run out of space in the fridge…
Guests
I like to plan. I like to give my guests time to plan. And If I know who my guests will be, I can cater to each person individually – what do they like to drink, what do they like to drink it with? Do they have allergies or special dietary requirements?
My mother likes to make sure everyone present gets a gift even if she doesn’t know them that well (she’s on a whole nother level, I know).
Extra Touches
Embroidered napkins, personalised baubles and champagne that matches the decor. Okay, that’s all I have so far. But you get where I’m going with this. Just small things that can’t be done at the last minute.
Christmas Day
I don’t even like to cook on Christmas Day. It’s my day too. I do everything I can in advance to take the pressure off a little. So I can sit at the table with my hair did and all my nails painted for a change!
I must stress that this year is special since I am purchasing everything from scratch. However, I’m sure in the years to come I’ll think of new ways to drive my husband insane!
